Workout Recovery Tips – 3 Tips To Speed Workout Recovery

by Caleb Lee on October 10, 2008

If you’re looking for some workout recovery tips… and you’d like to speed your workout recovery up… then this article was written just for you.

By now, you know that you don’t build muscle in the gym. And recent research has shown the best way to burn fat is to put your body in an anabolic and fat burning state so it continues burning fat out of the gym as well.

But you also know that you need to do intense workouts in order to gain muscle mass… add in additional fat burning cardio sessions, skill work if you’re an athlete and the every day stresses of life and you may find yourself not recovering before every session!

Not anymore, here’s some tips to help you recover faster:

5 Tips To Speed Workout Recovery

1. Contrast Showers - I hit the sauna after every strength training practice and cardio session. Once I’m all heated up and sweaty I then go hit the showers and start with cold water for about a minute then switch back to hot water. And switch back and forth a couple of times before settling somewhere in the middle. This contrast cold/hot technique stimulates more blood flow into the muscles.

2. Eat Right Away - After a tough workout your muscles need nutrition right away. As soon as possible after finishing your session you should pound a post workout recovery drink and pop a couple multivitamin pills just to be safe. Then wash it all down with some water. Keep the water with you…

3. Drink Water - Hydrated muscles recover faster. Sip on your water bottle throughout your workout (or go to the water fountain during rest sets like me) and sip on it all through the day after your workouts.

4. Warm Up – Before every session you should do a proper warm up routine. This should not just include doing something to get “warm” but also include some foam roller work, mobility drills and joint flexibility exercises. This will help you recover faster and be better for your body in the long run. I’ll write more on this in the future.

5. Sleep - Your body repairs itself and releases the most amount of human growth hormone while you are in stages of deep sleep. It’s essential that you get good, deep sleep every night to recover faster. If you need help sleeping try natural solutions before you reach for prescription medicine as it can often be bad for your health.

If you want to speed your workout recovery and these 5 Workout recovery tips should help you a lot. Now get out there and recover as hard as you work out.

I would add a suggestion that you take a couple of weeks off every now and then, especially if you have any symptoms of overtraining: sleep loss, short fuse, inability to concentrate. Setbacks caused by working too hard can slow down or even derail your development.

I found this article to be extremely helpful. 50% of working out is letting yourself rest. I couldn't imagine what it would be like it i never rested.
