Did you know that everything you could ever want to do is a learnable skill?
Yes! There’s not a single goal you have … desire you crave … problem you’re facing … or solution you’re looking for that someone hasn’t already figured out how to satsify those desires, problems or solutions?
Even better: in 99 out of 100 cases, someone has already written a book about it!
Which means, if you can read … if you decide to become “teachable” … you can do just about anything!
Why Everything Is a Learnable Skill
We are born knowing how to breathe … and that’s about it!
Everything else is a learned skill.
We try 1,000’s of times to crawl before we as babies learn this skill, then we fall down 10,000’s of times before learning how to walk … and then we spend a couple of years messing up our letters, sounds, and pronounciations before we finally get the whole “Talking” thing down …
And we learned how to do all of it.
“Talent” or “Being a Natural” If WAY Overrated!
Most people who are successful were NOT born that way.
You know Sly Stallone did NOT have an easy time getting into movies — he was not a “born actor”.
You know Drew Carey had no intentions of being a comic or making a living from his comedy, until he learned to do it:
“His comedy-bound career path began when a friend asked him to write some jokes for a local radio program. Having no experience in writing, he went to his library and read as much as he could on the subject. Eventually, he felt confident enough in his material to try it out before live audiences. A win at an open mic contest led to a steady gig as the emcee at the Cleveland Comedy Club. Soon afterwards, Carey’s brand of humor – broad, bawdy, self-deprecating; but rooted in an everyman attitude – earned him live dates at comedy clubs across the country.”
You know that Bill Gates was not born rich right? That he didn’t even develop the windows program (at that time MS-DOS)? That he saw an opportunity when IBM was looking for Operating Systems (O.S.) for computers and he took MS-DOS, an O.S., and licensed it — then convinced IBM to give his company Microsoft all the licensing rights for that O.S.–making him a fortune.
Step 1. Decide What You Want
This is the first crucial step in getting what you want — you have to become very CLEAR on what you want.
- Want to lose weight? How many pounds? Get clear on what you want and write it down.
- Want to earn more money? How much extra per year? Per month? Per Day? Get clear and write it down!
- Want to get better with the opposite sex? What do you REALLY want? Marriage or multiple relationships right now? Get clear and right it down …
Then after you know what you want …
Step 2. Start Looking For People Who Have What You Want & Have Written a Book About It!
Want to lose weight? Find the book from the guy who lost 100 pounds in two years … Want to make more money? There’s plenty of guys who have done it — find the book written by the guy who seems most like you and did it with the “vehicle” you like best (entreprener, intrapreneur, real estate, investing, etc) …
Look for:
- People who are most like you, in your situations …
- People who didn’t start with an advantage (i.e. Trump is an inspiration, but his dad being rich before him made it a little easier to build wealth with real estate–some of his strategies may not work for you)
Now READ their book. Really study it. Heck, write them an email or letter and talk to them (I was really surprised when a long-time favorite author of mine, David Morrell, wrote me back to an email! They’re people too ya know!) Ask them some questions about things you’re not sure on … advice … etc!
If you don’t understand a part of the process — repeat steps 1 and 2 to figure it all out. Remember this:
- Within a month: you can be SUPER competent in ANY skill and sound like you know what you’re talking about.
- Within 3 months: you can be an “expert” or “own” the skill you’re learning.
- Within a year: you can be world-class or almost there if you work hard at it, in just about anything.
- Focused, determined, day-after-day action has many times produced more results for driven people than YEARS of “sorda kinda” work towards a goal by mediocre people.
Step 3: PUT IT INTO ACTION
This step is in capital letters because it’s the most important step!
There are two types of people when it gets to this step:
- The Un-Successful – these people always keep wanting to know more before they get started. They’re continual learners. They will go back to school. They will stay in school. They will not step out on their own. They want degrees before starting anything. They basically want permission to get started in the path of working toward what they want … and then when they get it … they want a different type of permission again before starting (another degree, etc) — it’s all an excuse keeping them from success!
- The SUCCESSFUL — these people learn enough about what they want to do that they have a good idea to get started. They don’t need all the info, but just enough to get started. So they get started, ready-fire-aim style, and get going!
I want you to be in the successful group!
“The gap between ignorance and knowledge is much less than the gap between knowledge and action.”
-Anonymous
I couldn’t agree more!
Get Started Today Because It’s All A Learnable Skill!
If you think you can’t do something because you don’t know how … you’re wrong!
If you think you needed to be born with some special advantage, or some “edge” … then you’re wrong!
All you need to do is 3 steps — and take advantage of all the people who have been there before you and are now willing to help you get what you want.
