Why You Should Listen To Me

by Caleb Lee on September 21, 2010

Got a GREAT comment from some guy named “Johnny”

“Who are you Caleb? Give us some credentials, like for example, you’re a personal trainer, or a doctor etc. To me you’re just some dude talking out of his ass. Do you know what would happen if someone got physically affected from your “training program”? What’s more incredible, people actually respond to you. I guess morons attract morons, and in a world of morons, lawsuits don’t exist, therefore you continue your “know-it-all” rant. Get some training in the subject. Physical trainers and everyone else that gave their lives for this subject not only will be disappointed, they’d be pissed; I bet is they see you on the street they’d beat the crap out of you for being so fuucking ignorant.”

I nearly spit out my coffee reading this today! Made me smile :)

First off, I want to clear this up right now …

I’m NOT a doctor. I’m NOT a personal trainer. I’m NOT a nutritionist or dietician. And I do NOT have a degree in anything. But here’s the thing …

I’m An Expert In Whatever I Choose To Be An Expert In!

Because I CHOSE to be an expert in one or more areas. I don’t need a degree, a certificate, or anything else to tell me “Ok, now you’re an expert, you can proceed”

(Pay attention, you could shortcut YEARS off your path to success if you listen to this advice … or … you could continue being a sheeple (sheep + people, get it?) because you’re following THEIR rules)

Here’s how the process works:

  1. I’d like to become an expert in “Subject XYZ”: …
  2. Learn or DO more than 99% of other people in “Subject XYZ”  …
  3. You are now an expert and can share your expertise for fun or profit …

That’s it.

Let’s break it down:

Decide What You Want To Become An Expert In

For me, I’ve got many areas of my life that I would consider myself an expert in … or … at least an “expert enough” to ask for money in exchange for my talents in the area. But let’s talk about health & fitness (a big part of what this blog is about).

I CHOSE to become an expert in this little arena because I wanted to show others what I’ve learned … correct a lot of misinformation out there (that I knew was B.S. because I had tried it and it didn’t work) … and being the capitilistic pig that I am–I wanted to get paid for my expertise.

How To Become An Expert In Any Subject

  1. READ a LOT! If you go grab the top 3-5 books on a subject, and read them all, you’ll be 99% ahead of most others when it comes to ANY subject. For myself, I’ve been reading books, articles, websites, studies, magazines, newsletters, etc since I was 12 years old when it comes to anything related to health & fitness. (That’s actually WAY too much time to wait by the way to claim expert status in a given area, 3 months of intense study like this is usually enough to be ahead of the pack)
  2. DO a LOT! There’s the other key, and what I’d consider even more important. Get out there and get your teeth kicked in a bit. Try everything you’ve been reading about. Consider your life as just a big experiment, test your theories, your knowledge and your ideas. (To me, this is MORE the credentials for a real expert than anything else, knowledge included).

And the last step is to simply …

Establish Yourself As An Expert

Don’t wait. You don’t need ANYONE to tell you, “ok, you can be an expert now”.

This is called, “The Magic Of Self Appointment“. And most people will NEVER get this (like our friend Johnny).

You don’t realize it, but you’ve been conditioned from BIRTH by your parents, religions, education systems, government, etc to fit into a nice little spot — acting as a “cog” in society — keeping things running. Things like credentials, degrees, etc are just ways to keep you down from doing what you want with your life.

Seriously, read this article: The Magic Of Self Appointment, here’s a few gems you should consider:

“Realize our school system, government, and industries reward dependency, NOT self-reliance … conformity, NOT innovation … slavery to the status quo, NOT fearless adventure into the unknown.

Aside from the 3Rs, (reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic) what you learn through formalized education is obsolete, outdated knowledge by the time you learn it. Worse, it is designed to prepare you to become a droid in a large vertically-integrated company or institution the likes of which are disintegrating daily.

The result is the inevitable stunting of your initiative, creativity, and capacity for capitalist thinking. Naturally, you fail to appoint yourself captain of the myriad entrepreneurial opportunities around you. And then you wonder why external appointment eludes you.”

PROOF I Know What I’m Talking About

First of all I’m DOING it.

I followed my three simple steps. I’ve written books and sold them to people in countries all over the world, I’ve got my blog, dozens of websites, I’ve got emails subscribers, and people that actually THANK me for helping them in some form or another.

(Yes, I’m actually helping make the world a better place. I’m actually DOING it. So arguing that the world doesn’t work like this is simply crazy … because … I’m proving it each and every day!)

And I’m only a 20-something year old (getting older every day) guy …

Second, nearly EVERYONE who has ever achieved anything worthwhile … or for the mass benefit of mankind … has used this exact same process (from the same article):

“If you look at some of the most successful people in the world, you’ll see they became that way by taking a very different approach.

… Who told Steve Jobs to drop out of college and appoint himself MESSIANIC LEADER OF STONED GOOFBALL COMPUTER GEEKS EVERYWHERE in a crazy war against centralized computing and its overbearing, power hungry priesthood? A war they ultimately won. Had they not, you probably wouldn’t be reading this.

… Who told Andrew Carnegie — the son of a weaver — who started his career changing spools of thread in a cotton mill twelve hours a day for $1.20 a week that he should appoint himself CAPTAIN OF INDUSTRY?

… Who told Abraham Lincoln that with one year of a backwoods Kentucky education (reading, writing, and ciphering to the rule of three) he was qualified enough to be appointed Postmaster, and then Lawyer, and then Congressman, and then President, and then MILITARY COMMANDER IN CHIEF?

Nobody, that’s who, THEY JUST DID IT!

… And the rest is history.”

Here’s the bottom line: keep waiting for others to control your life … tell you what you can or can’t do … how to live, how to act, how to make a living, how to “be” in the world …

… OR … step up, take control of your life and start giving your deepest gift possible to the world. And when you’re thinking about doing it — just DO it — and stop waiting for someone to tell you it’s ok.

(Oh, and when you DO start doing it, and you have people living small lives telling you you shouldn‘t be doing it, just make a blog post out of them, to 1. teach them how life works and 2. make an example out of them.)

Peace :)

Hot damn shazam!! And he’s back!

On a serious note, to the hater: I am a personal friend of Caleb. I have been for going on 2 years now. I will admit that at first his methodology on certain things seemed foreign and strange to me. But my oh my does he know his stuff. Take for example 2 fattish powerlifters, one at 23%ish bf and the other at 30%ish bf. Following Caleb’s mantra, they’ve taken a legit 10% off of their bf totals. And these are two stubborn dudes.

The man that is Caleb spends an honest cumulative time of about a month’s worth of days, going to seminars and such that he has to pay for to bring you FREE information. Let me say that again, FREE. He posts this for your benefit and for you to take away from it what you will. There are over 6 billion people on the Earth. Which is why Caleb doesnt push his word as scripture and wants you to figure out for yourself, with his findings, what works for YOU.

So then Mr. Hater, think more on your words of blatant hatred and ignorance. Your very shallow attempt at discrediting Caleb has made you seem quite the fool and anyone with half a brain will see so as well.

Caleb_Lee September 22, 2010 at 4:16 pm

I like this part,

"Take for example 2 fattish powerlifters"

Hahaha, but seriously. Thanks for the comment! Been too long :)

In the United States, free speech allows us to publish pretty much whatever we want for mass market consumption. The thing you would need to worry about is if you work with specific people in a regulated field, for example giving specific dietary advice to an individual without being a licensed nutritionist.

I say carry on, help the masses, ignore the haters.

Caleb_Lee September 22, 2010 at 4:16 pm

Tis true … gotta love the freedom of speech.

this almost made me crap my pants i laughing so hard.
im also a friend of calebs, and have been since high school. and when he first started giving me advice i was "what?! youre an idiot!" of course i didnt actually say that cus hes my friend but i begrudgingly started to follow some of his diet and fitness plans and guess what?
im getting stronger every week, my form continues to improve and even though my diet is still evolving based on my own personal needs/desires, i give caleb a lot of credit for how far ive come.

Caleb_Lee September 22, 2010 at 6:05 pm

Hahahaha, and to think, I don't even charge extra for pants-crapping! I'm such a nice guy :)

Steven Ponec September 22, 2010 at 9:39 pm

Fuck. :) This is such a good post. Like you have no idea. I'm sort of a "conformity" – hater. Some people think I'm crazy. But I do experimentation like you. And it makes life so much more fun to just learn a shitton about stuff.
Thanks for this article.
It was just what I needed to read.

PS – I've lost a fair amount of weight doing the warrior diet and drinking lots of water. Thanks for that advice Caleb. I had tried it before but didn't stick with it. Now I do.

Caleb_Lee September 22, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Awesome Steven! Thanks for the comment too.

Bernie September 28, 2010 at 11:03 pm

So I haven’t read any of your blogs the last few months because I’ve been in Iraq. But this article is so true. I’ve wanted to do so many things and by stepping out of the “norm”, I’ve got to do them. I started a little “business” doing art for whoever. My “reading” teacher wanted me to do that. I also have made money by fixing various electronics. How? By making myself an expert. Thanks for this article right here. Even though I’m currently “dependent” in the the Air Force, this has definitely inspired me to go be an expert in something else.

Side note: Before I came into the Air Force I was 285. I found Calebs stuff around then. I am currently down to 190 but my lowest was 170. I didn’t like being that small though. Thanks again.

Caleb_Lee September 29, 2010 at 7:59 pm

You're the man, MAN!

Sounds like you're doing great, and you should keep building whatever you're building on the side while the Air Force is paying your bills, educating you, etc — it can only help!

And great job losing weight!

Sam October 5, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Stupid is is stupid does sir…..reminds one of why abortion is still legal! Haters like this guy! k…. i gotta pee…

Caleb_Lee October 6, 2010 at 4:48 pm

Haha. Thanks for sharing …

Chris November 14, 2010 at 10:04 pm

Hey Caleb, your methodologies work, but you don't have a degree or phd in this subject. You are a fraud.

Caleb_Lee November 27, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Nice Chris — yeah, you're probably better off not listening to me or doing anything I advise — it won't work anyways :)

JS December 28, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Ummm… Yeahhh…

I’ve been training and studying the subject for over twenty years now. This guy Caleb knows so little (sarcasm) that I just added three shortcuts to my desktop in as many minutes–if nothing else, to show to others so I don’t have to write all of this total BS myself (he also has better than average writing skills). I hate Caleb as much as “Johnny” does (more sarcasm). Thanks for the articles, Caleb. Keep up the good work.

PS: I had no idea that “Physical trainers…gave their lives for this subject.” RIP and thank you for your sacrifice, I guess.

Signed: Yet Another Moron

Caleb_Lee December 30, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Hahaha thanks JS :)

Caleb S. January 5, 2011 at 5:35 pm

F*ck me, great rebuke/article.
I just found this website, enjoying it.
Keep up the good work, fellow Caleb

Caleb_Lee January 11, 2011 at 8:45 pm

Thanks Fellow caleb

Brasiano February 17, 2011 at 3:25 pm

You got it Caleb! READ, PLAN, DONE. That’s the right sequence in building up your skills. Maybe you should try freelance writing or focus on another field. I really think that all people can be adept at something if they can just give themselves a push harder. Great going!

Caleb_Lee March 18, 2011 at 7:09 pm

Hey Brasiano!

Thanks for the comment man!

Yeah, my "Day job" is as a freelance writer :)

Russell May 14, 2011 at 2:11 pm

Don't worry about people like Johnny they are miserable no matter what you tell them and here is the 1person suffering from pessimist syndrome with a very closed mind. Caleb keep up the great work in showing everyone what to do in this area.

The Caller June 16, 2011 at 8:16 pm

You are absolutely right, Caleb. Be whoever you want to be, and if you can convince people (sheeple) that you know what you're talking about – by "walking the walk", not just "talking the talk" – then you will be a de facto expert. As you say, you don't need intrinsically worthless pieces of paper to prove that.
Trust me – I know. I've been there, done that, bought the T-shirt!
More power to you, sir.

Serge September 21, 2011 at 1:39 am

I always found it interesting how the lazy, broke, and worthless individuals hate the quality of their life and only dream of prosperity, but immediately try to drag you back into their level of misery as soon as you start prospering from your own hard work and creativity that's been paying off. What I learned from life is that nobody ever looks out for your best interests. Those vultures are everywhere, and not many will show support once you start thinking for yourself. They'll either try to take advantage of you, or try to condition you to have herd mentality, or if that doesn't work, they'll work to shut you up and defame you. you don't need anyone's approval to do anything, just go and take it by force.
