Why You Should Ignore The Scale. Totally.

Stop Obsessing About Your Weight!

Did you know that if you want to look better … you should totally ignore the weight scale?

It’s true.

In fact, one of the best things any person can do … especially women … is to just completely forget about your “weight” and focus instead on how you LOOK and FEEL.

Why Weight Is Unreliable.

The thing is, your actual “dry” weight … before breakfast in the morning and after you’ve been to the bathroom … is not even always a reliable indicator of how much you weigh.

It’s definitely not a reliable indicator of how much progress you’re making. The closest you can get is to weigh yourself at the same time every day under the same conditions.

You could be more dehydrated one day and way 3-5 pounds less (or 10-12 pounds less if you’re bigger) … or you could be retaining water due to your diet and way the same amount heavier.

It’s just not a reliable factor of judging progress. And besides, why obsess over some number?

The exception here of course is if you’re an athlete and you MUST weigh a certain number in order to compete in your sport’s weight class. But then again, you should already know this wouldn’t apply to you then (except in off-season).

Why Looking and Feeling Is Much Better

Instead of obsessing over some mythological number that you really don’t have a lot of control over … or that won’t really tell you “accurately” how well you’re doing with your diet and exercise plan … why not “obsess” over how you look and how you feel.

Don’t look at the scale — look at the mirror! You’ll feel much better, and be able to see more progress when you look in the mirror to see how you’ve changed. Are your arms getting tighter? Stomach flatter? Legs less “jiggly”?

Even better than the mirror: take a “Before” picture … because … we hardly notice the little changes that happen day-by-day … but … a before picture and an after picture at 90 days can show a WORLD of difference!

Do Your Clothes Fit?

Another thing you can ask yourself is “do my clothes fit?” Are they getting looser? Or are they getting tighter?

You have to be a little careful with this too because you might find that certain areas, like your thighs and butt, are getting a little tighter when you start squatting/deadlifting … even though … your waistline is getting slimmer.

This is a good thing — everyone likes a tight thighs and butt!

How Energetic Do You Feel?

This is probably a good indicator too! Do you feel better after you’ve exercised? What about during the week? Do you have more energy for the things in life that YOU enjoy?

Do you have more stamina when cleaning the house … tending the garden … going out drinking with the guys/gals … or playing with the kids/chasing them around?

These are all things you should note as well to determine if your exercise/diet is working for you.

The Bottom Line Is …

Too many people obsess over wanting to weigh some “magic number” when it really all comes down to how YOU think you look and how YOU feel!

I totally agree, forget the scales. I prefer the “how do my clothes fit?” test, much more reliable.

Thanks for a great post!
