Never Say “I’m Not That Kind Of Person” To Opportunities!

by Caleb Lee on April 3, 2009

star-wars-awesomeToday, I want to share with you a reason why I’m more than average when it comes to achieving my goals, doing cool stuff, succeeding at things I put my mind to… and… pretty much an all around “rock star” :)

Not to brag, but it’s one of the main reasons I’ve been able to achieve so much, and the best part is it’s DEAD SIMPLE.

Here’s what it is: when I see opportunities, I NEVER say:

  • “That’s not for me”… or…
  • “I could never do that”… or…
  • “Yeah, that could work for him, but I’m just not into that”.

Do you understand? I never dis-qualify myself from taking advantage of:

  1. An opportunity
  2. A strategy or method to get where I wanna go

Your Goal or “Aim” Is Most Important, NOT How You Get There

So for example, I had the goal of working for myself. At first, I had an idea of how I was going to get there, a certain type of business.

I tried doing that business and it wasn’t working very well. Then I started reading more about how to get customers, discovered marketing, discovered internet marketing and (long story short) heard about people doing stuff like these blogs online.

Now most people at this point, if they were in my shoes would say “WAIT!” because:

  • I’ve never liked writing.
  • I was never a good writer in school
  • (Although I have always been a voracious reader)
  • I’ve never consistently written anything in my life…

But I still saw the opportunity that is online. I still saw that blogs like this are pretty successful once you get them going…

So instead of immediately going “well, I’m not a writer so that wouldn’t work for me”… or something equally dumb… I realized that:

  1. This is a path that could get me to my goal.
  2. I should go down that path
  3. And figure out how to make it work in the process

So I did. I started writing. And today, it’s been almost a year and I’ve written one article per day almost without fail every single week day (Monday-Friday) for this blog.

Do You UnderStand The Power You’ll Have When You “GET This”?

Here’s the bottom line:

“Anything one man can do, another can do also!”

And there’s incredible power in just that one sentence. If Bill Gates could create a multi-BILLION dollar fortune for himself… then you can too (assuming that’s what you want).

If one man can become great at sports, and win tons of gold medals… then you can too.

If one man can lose over 100 pounds of body fat, re-shape his body, write books about his transformation and inspire millions of others… then you can too!

The only thing that’s stopping you now from achieving whatever level of greatness you could want (no matter what that “greatness” looks like) is YOU.

You are either 1.) closed off to new opportunies and strategies to get from where you are now to that “greatness” or, even worse, 2.) you know you could do it but you’re too damn lazy to realize this life is not a dress rehearsal and you could be living your dreams if only you’d just get started.

Really, what else is there? (The answer is “nothing” so don’t try to give me excuses :) )

Nice Caleb. I like the series you’ve been doing lately, with a lot of posts about the mental/attitude side. I may have to emulate you on this! (‘Cause “I AM that kind of person” too…)
