There’s not a lot of things that you shouldn’t “ever” eat.
In fact, I’ve never been the “never” type of guy. Pretty much EVERYTHING is good in moderation … and even most things that seem to be unhealthy … have some health benefits when used in moderation. Stuff like …
- Drinking alcohol …
- Eating saturated fat …
- Smoking certain things …
- Etc,
So it’s hard for me to say “NEVER” eat these things … but … I feel in this case it’s justified.
Once again, my main man, Dr. Al Sears breaks down 3 of the foods you should never eat if you wanna be healthy, lean and virile!
Dr. Sear’s writes:
“Here are three foods that will put you on the fast track to fat:
Breakfast Cereal: This one is a little deceptive. No one thinks of cereal as being a threat to their health. But no matter which one you choose, breakfast cereals are high on the glycemic index (GI). For many people, a dose of high-glycemic carbs in the morning is the prescription for building excess body fat.
You’d almost be better off eating a candy bar or a piece of cake.
The GI of an average piece of chocolate cake is between 31 and 38… a Snickers bar is about 43. Not bad.
Compare that to the GI of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes… which registers a whopping 132. That means corn flakes break down into sugar in your bloodstream faster than pure glucose!
And if you add fuel to the fire by putting sugar on your cereal, you’re sending an overwhelming surge of sugar into your system.
Remember, high blood sugar triggers a wave of insulin. And insulin is the hormone that sends the message to build and store fat.
Even “healthy” cereals like Grape-Nuts have a GI of 80. That’s also very high.
It might be a fast fix when you’re rushing in the morning, but cereal in the morning will make you fat. Avoid it at all costs.
French Fries: Possibly the worst foods you can eat. First off, potatoes are high-glycemic and not good for you in any form. But when you take potatoes and deep-fry them in trans fatty oil, you have a recipe for sickness and disease.
While white potatoes aren’t the best choice, the oil they’re cooked in adds much more danger than the potatoes do. If you need a potato fix now and then, opt for a baked potato or, better yet, sweet potatoes. They’re loaded with carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.
Bagels and Breads: Don’t fall for the “whole-grain goodness” trap. When it comes to the glycemic index, it matters very little whether breads are made from whole grain or not. Grains spike your blood sugar, and you know what that means.
Forget about the commercials you see on TV. Unless you are very poor and can’t get enough calories without them, you should avoid grains at least until you get as lean as you want to be. You’ll be better off without them.
In the morning, take a few extra moments and scramble some eggs. Before you throw the eggs in, sauté some sliced tomatoes and spinach. Maybe some onion, too. In less than 10 minutes, you can have a breakfast that will make you feel pumped and energetic for the whole morning.
And if you need a fast lunch, try a wrap instead of a sandwich. More and more restaurants offer wraps these days. They come in all styles – spinach is my favorite. (Try and avoid the heavy flour tortillas.)
With That Being Said, I Sin On Sundays …
So lately, I’ve been endulging in my “sin” of eating McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches on Sunday mornings before Church.
And Yup, I get the bacon, egg and cheese bagel. Spikes the ole insulin? Yup! Along with lotsa fat? Yup! Tastes unbelievably delicious? Yup!!!!
But you know what? I don’t try and deceive myself into thinking it’s something healthy I’m doing. It’s like my cheat day. And I usually take additional measures the rest of the day to minimize the impact (eat a little less, etc).
So whatever.
Don’t eat those three foods above … “ever” … and if you do … just know you’re not doing yourself any good. Life’s too short for any other attitude

Hi Caleb,
I like this post as it reminds us of some dietary evils that so many people include as staple food (especially cereal). I really think there need to be extra special circumstances for eating these foods. I have a soft spot for classic cereal and milk so have been using it to fuel my London Marathon training. Saying that I try to use oats and bananas as oppose to the more processed cereals out there. So many people get sucked in by the whole-grain, slow release advertising but they fail to find out the truth.
I can quite easily live without cereal each morning, you just need to be a bit more prepared and have your healthy supplies (berries, eggs etc) at the ready. Being healthy can be just as quick, simple and more tasty!
Great comment Luke! Probably need all the calories you can get with marathon running
You want to hear something alarming? When I was a kid I thought Chunk was really, really fat. Nowadays a kid Chunk's size is totally normal. When did this happen???
Very VERY alarming. Crazy right?
Reading Casanova's autobiography, and Parents used to have to tell their kids they needed to "get more flesh" or "fatten up" because they ate so little, played outside so much, etc … Crazy huh?
Fat mexican(or some other hispanic origin, I dont really care) was eating corn flakes this morn at my work. I told him it’ll make him fat. He said no, it’s made of corn so it has to be healthy. I explained the GI and all that other stuff. He started speaking his gibberish, disagreeing with me. Moral of the story, eating corn flakes will make you fat and stupid
Yes. Fat and Stupid.
There is no nutritional benefit to corn. Even off the cob, it's just dumb.
And the fact that EVERYTHING is made out of it these days is just proof that it's a cheap crop to produce and turn into tons of crap that won't expire on store shelves …
As for hispanics … Mexican food is so healthy … if it just wasn't for the flour or corn tortillas/wraps/etc … you usually got beef, pork or chicken with some low GI beans (refried or whatever), healthy omegas in the guacamole or straight up avacodoes … salsa is a godsend (I wouldn't eat veggies without it!) … and green stuff in the form of lettuce or whatever.
Moral of the story? Chipotle — DONE RIGHT — will get you ripped, and will not make you fat and stupid and is DELICIOUS!!!!!
This article was very enlightening, now if I only could get the rest of my family to eat "healthy". Yeah, sure, I could make eggs everyday for them, but that's a lotta eggs! I have almost completely cut out white processed flour from my diet and you won't see me eating a bowl of sugar for breakfast. I also try to pass on the french fries and the potato chips, and bread is NOT my friend… even the stuff I make from the kernel that I grind at home and make… I just don't have a hankerin' for it.
I must say, I have to totally agree w/you on those 3 foods… I avoid them like the plague. Now if I could only shed those last 15 – 18 pounds… that is my goal after 8, yes eight, children. I will be down to my slim 115…
Good for you! After 8 children, you seem to still be going for it! How much weight have you lost so far?
What about a bowl of Oats in the morning? Is that as bad as cereal?
Probably.
How about cheerios? I love eating them with lowfat milk, is that a no-no also?
Yup. Maybe on your cheat day only? Like I enjoy my "sinning on Sundays" when I get to eat a McD's bacon egg and cheese bagel … mmmm
Oat porridge would have low GI, lots of fiber, very good for digestion in the morning. Dont forget the ground flax seed and some berries.
According to http://www.carbs-information.com the GI of Kellog's cornflakes is 81 and that of a Snickers bar is 55. There is no way that a Snickers bar is healthier though. It's loaded with fat and sugar and undoubtedly has more calories than a bowl of cornflakes. I never really cared about GI. I'm sure it matters for a diabetic, but if you want to lose weight it's all about calories in vs. calories out. I do eat my cereal and bread every single day and I'm 6' tall and weigh 172 lbs. I love bread so there is no way I'm going to give it up.
I do agree that french fries, especially the fast food kind should be avoided at all costs. The trans fats in the deep frying pan are literally a heart stopper.
Cheers!
Hey Stan,
Appreciate the input, but paying attention to the GI of foods is definitely a good thing …
(Although, if you simply avoid most processed foods and focus on healthy meats, veggies, and green stuff — you don't have to worry about GI either because most all those foods are low GI) …
Now, I do agree that weight loss comes from calories in VS calories out … BUT … (and this is a BIG but) it pays to eat healthy. And high GI foods, lots of processed foods, grains, etc is not healthy. Plain and simple.
Best,
Caleb
Like the website, Caleb! As you know, calories in, calories out, isn’t the whole story! That’s why WHAT you eat is so important! Different foods affect your metabolic organs and hormones differently (Pancreas, thyroid, etc.)
Dead on with the foods to avoid. I might add one: sodas!
Keep it up!
…no wait, seriously?
Bread?
YOU CANT EAT BREAD?!
Rei,
Only about 10% of the time … wouldn't recommend it any more than that. IMHBAO, our bodies just aren't meant for it …
Okay I absolutely loved this article! I eat all of these listed items. Well except for cereal. I really haven't had that in months. Who knew that even the plain cereal like corn flakes and grape nuts could sabotage my health so much.
I loved the suggestion about the scrambled egg , tomatoes, and spinach. I will have to use that one when I get up in the mornings to help me stay focused for my day. I normally have around a bag of almonds with out any flavorings as well.I am glad you have a cheat day as well.
Because no one should have to be good 100% of the time. lol
Keep up the killer posts my man!
Glad you loved it
I'd like to know what are some other good breakfast options, besides the eggs idea mentioned earlier. (Obviously, cereals and breads are out.) What else do you suggest?
– Eggs
– nitrate free bacon of all types
– veggies/broccoli/etc
– leftover steaks/meat from night before
– Cottage cheese and mixed berries
– Stuff like that
stop thinking about “breakfast” foods and make it more like a lunch/dinner food and your whole world will open up
So basically you want people to clog their arteries with cholesterol? I like that you say that scrambling eggs with tomatoes, onions etc will get you full of energy. You know what else will get you full of energy? CALORIES. Your post is absolutely ridiculous and I think you should definitely do more research before attempting to give out advice. Poor saps like some of the ones who responded to it will fall for it as if you're some sort of health-guru.
Remind me to not go to any your houses for ANY meal EVER!
BREAD!??? REALLY!??
Much ignorance here methinks…
Ok, I won't invite you over
Cereal is bad….but what about plain ol' oatmeal??? I eat plain Quaker Oats oatmeal every Saturday and Sunday with blueberries mixed in. Cook it on the stove…no added sugar or anything additional except the blueberries. That can't be bad…right??? Loaded with fiber and no fat!
