Muscle Growth Training – How Should You Train For Fast Muscle Growth?

by Caleb Lee on October 29, 2008

If you’re wondering about what makes for good maximum muscle growth training… and how to train for fast muscle growth… then pay attention to this article.

In order to maximize your muscle growth training — you need to maximize three factors in the weight room, here’s the three factors and what you need to pay attention to:

1. Increase The Resistance

More strength = More muscle. The more weight you’re lifting the more muscle you’ll build plain and simple. Your muscles won’t grow if you don’t give them a REASON to grow…

One of the reasons is resistance — you need to be moving weights that provide enough resistance for your body to go “hey, it would be easier if I had more muscle to move these weights — I think I’ll grow some!”

Obviously that’s an extremely over simplified account of what happens with resistance training but I hope you get the point. So…

  • lift heavier weights or
  • Increase the total amount of time under tension (done by slowing down how fast you lift the weights) or
  • Lift lighter weights as fast as possible, explosively…

2. Increase The Volume

The other signal that tells your body to grow more muscle is volume. Sure you’ve increased the resistance you’re experiencing… but if you’re just doing heavy single reps you won’t experience much (if any) real muscle growth.

Your body will first respond to low volume strength training by making your muscle “fire” harder — making the current muscle you have contract harder and work more efficiently, giving you more strength.

Before it gets the signal to add muscle it needs to know you NEED the added muscle. So increase the sets first, then the reps, then the total amount of exercises.

3. Work Your Whole Body

I can’t stress this enough. For muscle growth training you need to work your WHOLE body. Why?

  • More muscles used means more total weight lifted, increasing resistance…
  • More muscles used means more volume total…
  • More muscles used means more hormonal responses that lead to fast muscle growth..

So stop doing so many tricep kickbacks and get on a good program that hits your whole body. Lift heavy. Lift with more volume for muscle growth training. The DoubleYourGains’ 3-5 Program is a good one for fast muscle growth (go on the high end of 5×5)– try it today!
