What Can Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx Teach You About Second Chances?
Not really sure how to talk about this, but I think second chances are great!
It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about max bench attempts or anything else. Sometimes you need a second chance.
Because hardly anyone gets it right the first time … in fact, I’ve figured out some things about life that may make you happy …
Rule #1: Nothing Is Permanent
This is comforting, because a lot of the time we think when we screw up … the results are permanent. Nothing could be farther from the truth, however.
Almost everything in life is constantly changing. Your attitudes. Your circumstances. Your problems, or lack thereof, etc …
So if something goes wrong the first time, don’t worry about it. It’s not permanent.
Rule #2: Most Of The Time You Won’t Die
One thing that is permanent, is death.
Luckily, there’s not a lot of times when you screw up that the mistake is going to kill you.
Sure, making the wrong decision about trying to mix up a new cocktail with maximum dosages of jack daniels, qualudes, heroin, and cocaine … MAY kill you like it did Nikki Sixx … but only for a short time.
Seriously though, there’s not a lot that can kill you just from making a simple mistake. So that fact should inspire you to action because if the worst outcome is death … and most of the time that won’t happen … what are you afraid of?
Rule #3: You Almost Always Get a Second Chance
Finally, the topic of this post — second chances — you almost always get them.
Because most mistakes are so impermanent, and un-killing, you’re almost always guaranteed a “second try” shot.
- Right about to walk up to that girl and ask her for her number, then chickened out? Don’t worry, you’ll get another chance (maybe not with her, but who knows! Maybe the pain of that missed opportunity will spur you to action next time!)
- Tried that new one rep max attempt and got pancaked under the weight? Don’t worry about it, you’ll get a chance to try it again (it may take another few weeks of training, but you’ll get it).
- Totally messed up that job promotion interview at work? Calm down, be thankful you still got your regular job, and start thinking of ways to wow the boss next time …
Seriously, second chances are one of the best things to ever be invented. (and they’re super useful too).
