Are YOU Really Free?
In America, we’ll celebrate our independence day this weekend on July 4th.
It’s the weekend of carnivals, barbecues, baseball, picnics and concerts … everyone drinks … everyone parties and everyone eats till past full.
I’m a big fan of this holiday myself … but it got me thinking about you. Yes YOU my friend!
Today is YOUR independence day!
Instead of just celebrating America being free, why not claim freedom from yourself?
Are you really “in charge” in your life? Or are you letting yourself be controlled by other people, or your circumstances?
- Are you doing what you want for a job? Or just doing it to “survive”?
- Are you being the best version of yourself every day? The guy you’d like to be remembered by? Or are you just being lazy?
- Are you letting your parent’s ideas and desires of who you SHOULD be run your life? Or are you choosing, consciously, who you want to be in this world?
- Are you letting your circumstances dictate your emotions? Or are you consciously choosing to be happy, moment-by-moment?
- Are you letting someone else dictate how much time you spend with your family … your friends … your hobbies … or your lover(s)?
INSTEAD of doing these things, you should probably …
Choose What You Want From This Point On!
Life IS a choice you know. You don’t have to “settle”. You don’t have to accept the “status quo”. You don’t have to be “average”.
You really CAN be in control of your own life … as much as is possible by any one person. All it takes is that you …
Get Started Today!
It’s a simple 3 step process. And over this weekend, whether you’re celebrating Independence Day or not, you should go through it and become independent yourself …
First, Be Thankful.
I believe this step is incredibly important because it’s a very powerful way to put you into a positive mindset.
First, take a look at your life and find the time to be GENUINELY thankful for each and every thing that you like about it. (This will also help you zero-in on what you DO want in your life!)
Oh … and you DO have things to be thankful for!
- If you’re reading this — chances are you’re in a developed, modern country!
- You don’t have to worry about starving!
- You don’t have to worry about getting hacked to death by a tribe of machete wielding bandits tomorrow!
- You’re probably not in prison if you’re reading this!
- You have at least enough money to afford an internet connection! (Or, you otherwise have available access to one!)
It may be hard for you at first because you don’t do it often, but make a list of things you are REALLY grateful for.
Next, Briefly Meditate and Plan
The next step is just as vital … and that’s figuring out what you would like to change in your life.
How do you want to become more independent? How do you want to be in more control? What do you want to change?
Use your list of things you’re grateful for to help you: what really turns you on? What makes you the most happy? What are you the most grateful for?
This may take a few moments … even hours … but it’s important to lock yourself in a room, take the phone off the hook, ignore all the distractions and really get into this. It’s tough work — “skull sweat” I call it — because you’re using your brain, working it out, making it sweat … but it’s absolutely necessary!
Trust me, the payoff is your ENTIRE life! So don’t worry that it takes a while to figure this out.
Once you do figure out (at least one thing) you want to become more independent about–then come up with a simple plan for how to get it.
Even if you don’t know how to get it yet … that’s ok … simply come up with a “general idea” of where to head. Which direction to start in … all you need is a general direction to start in.
Then, IMMEDIATELY, Get Going!
This is probably the most important part — because most people stop at the two steps above.
It’s ABSOLUTELY VITAL you take action at this point … otherwise you never will.
Remember this: Time is an illusion. You only have the present moment. Tomorrow is an illusion … it won’t exist until it’s the present moment … so realize that you just need to start now to work towards whatever it is you want.
Don’t get overwhelmed with how “big” your goal may seem … or how long you think it will take to get there … none of that matters because you’ll only ever have to deal with the present moment at any one time right?
So just take one step. Let tomorrow, even two hours into the future, take care of itself. Just take one step now to get closer to your independence …
Lastly, CELEBRATE Your Own Independence Day!
It may take a couple years or so before you finally reach the level of independence you want in the part of your life you’ve targeted … but that’s ok.
You can start celebrating your every step now. Every step of the way … you can congratulate yourself. This is another thing you can be grateful of. Just be grateful you’re working towards your own independence.
What’s more: this weekend–because it’s supposed to be a time of family and friends and thankfulness for independence — you can go ahead and get started celebrating what you have NOW … and then continue on with the steps above.
So if you want to change your life for the better … if you want more control over who you are and who you’re going to be … and ultimately … what you’re going to get out of your life–then get started with this independence day plan today!
