Home Muscle Building – How to Build Muscle At Home

by Caleb Lee on December 12, 2008

If you’re looking for some home muscle building tips, then you’ll love this powerful, little article. You’ll discover how to build muscle and burn fat in a hurry all doing workouts at home, and for most of them you don’t need equipment.

What Makes For A Good Home Workout?

You still need to address the main areas responsible for 90% of your fitness results:

  • Full body workouts – you still need to workout your whole body at home…
  • Strength Based – you need to build your strength and…
  • Cardio – you need to get some good cardio in, which will also give you some endurance training…

So what types of workouts can you do at home to do this?

Bodyweight Exercises Rule!

Because you don’t need any equipment, bodyweight exercises are a great way to go. If you’re a beginner, you’ll build a lot of strength just doing the DoubleYourGains’ Bodyweight Program.

But if you’re a little more advanced trainee, you might need to make those bodyweight exercises harder. Here’s a couple ideas:

  • Add resistance - you can put on a bookbag full of heavy books and do pullups, pushups, or dips
  • Lose a limb – not permanently, but try one armed pushups and one legged squats (and pullups if you’re a beast)…
  • Decrease your leverage – do a handstand against the wall and do handstand pushups, pullups slow and to your sternum, put your feet up on a chair for pushups, try things like muscle ups, etc

If you increase your “general resistance” through one of those three methods you’ll be able to make bodyweight exercises harder, even to the point where you’re primarily building absolute and relative strength… instead of endurance only.

Remember, Full-Body Workouts…

Don’t just settle for a few pushups and call it a day. You need a push, pull and squat/leg movement (just like any good resistance training program). The DoubleYourGains’ bodyweight program uses bodyweight squats, pushups, pullups, and situps.

Don’t just work the muscle groups you want to work.

Get Your Cardio In

My Bodyweight exercise program is good cardio if you don’t rest at all in between exercises. But there’s other bodyweight exercises that can make you huff and puff too. Things like burpees, high jumps onto platforms, hill sprints, rope skipping, etc are all great cardio exercises that require little to no equipment.

So now you have no excuses not to get some good workouts in with these home muscle building tips.
