If you wanna get a beach body … then keep reading because these 7 tips are going to help you lose that extra weight and get ready for summer!
First — Get Yo’ Mind Right!
Because all success starts in the mind. Everything you see around you once did not exist until someone imagined it, and then followed through to create it. Neat eh?
It’s the same way with your body. You need to first figure out what you want, get a clear mental image of it, and then start achieving it. In this case, it’s just about summer so assuming you want to get a beach body, you should focus on the type of body you want to get.
Of COURSE this is why I have a lovely picture of a lady in a bikini attached to this post — you didn’t think it was something more sinister did you?
You think I admire Kim Kardashian for any other reason other than the fact she has a healthy body image … works out regularly and is a good role model for women who want to get in shape anywhere?
SHAME on you!
Now that you know what you want, here’s seven tips to help you get a beach body by the time summer roles around!
1. Take Up Strength Training
Muscle looks good. I was recently at my cousins wedding and the bridesmaids, cute birds they were, but a few looked a bit … malnourished?
Like they had just cut a TON of calories, or purged to get to their current weight. I’m not being mean, or insensitive but they just looked … “fragile”. Not healthy.
You don’t want that! You want lean muscle — it’ll keep your body healthy. It’ll help burn fat. It’ll keep your metabolism up, tone your muscles, etc.
2. “Take A Hike!” (Or Just a Walk)
When I think about how cavemen used to stay in good shape, I think a lot of it was “not by choice”. They had to walk everywhere, no taxis for them!
It’s good to walk … so don’t be afraid of it. Park a little further away from doors when you go out shopping, or go to work. Walk the longer path around the department store. Get up from your desk and walk a lap around the office every 15 minutes (it’ll also help you clear the stress and get your more focused when you get back to work!)
More walking = more activity. More activity = less fat!
3. Embrace Your Inner Carnivore
If you’re looking to drop some fat, then you should probably lay off the carbs for a bit. Embrace your inner carnivore a little. Get some red meat in your system.
Enjoy some chicken … masticate on some lamb … love on some pork … or devour some beef in any one of many delightful ways — ground, in a steak, etc.
Add to your carnivorous ways with a little bit of vegetable eating and green stuff and you’ll start seeing the pounds fly off.
4. Lay Off The Sauce
Alcohol, while fun, is a lot of extra calories. Not something you should be indulgin in too much if you’re really working hard in the gym to get that beach body.
I know it’s difficult when you’re young, lovely and want to test your drinkin limits every time you go out — but your body will thank you for laying off it all a bit.
Find something else to replace the activity. Kung Fu movies works for me!
5. When In Doubt, Whip It Out! (Of Your Mouth … )
Most of us were brought up to “clean your plates!” and we carry this habit into adult hood — no matter whether we’re full or the portion size!
It’s not really necessary anymore.
You do NOT have to clean your plate. You do not have to finish every little morsel on that porcelain disc and then go for second helpings.
Eat a little more slowly … chew it a little more … enjoy and savor the taste a little bit extra … and then stop when you think “MMMM. That was good — I feel full now!”
6. Less T.V. – More Walks!
Instead of plopping down on the couch and mindlessly nibbling on potatoe chips and candy — knock it off! Go for a walk with the family!
Go for a walk by yourself. Explore new routes. Check out the neighborhood. Wave to old and young people alike (they’ll smile — trust me!)
In China, I hear they have a custom of taking long, slow walks after dinner to help the food digest and live longer. Couldn’t hurt
7. Abs Come Last
I know you really wanna see those abs, so you’re probably focusing a lot on working them in the gym, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But just remember what’s going to get you the MOST “bang for your buck” when it comes to getting lean:
- Diet
- Strength Training
- Cardio
- Abs training
It’s at the bottom of the list, so control what you put in your mouth first … build some lean muscle second … run some sprints and THEN make sure you’re working those abs hard …
If you follow the seven tips above, you should be able to get a beach body in no time!
