Gain More Muscle With These Quick Tips

by Caleb Lee on December 18, 2008

If you want to gain more muscle, then this article was written just for you. I’ll give you three quick tips that really helped me build more muscle.

1. Workout More Intensely

This is absolutely crucial to gaining muscle, you need to be working out intensely. Before, when I was just focused on building strength and not gaining weight — I’d keep the overall reps/sets/volume low. 3 sets of 3 wasn’t uncommon.

But when I decided I wanted to gain muscle, I started to increase the intensity of the workouts by increasing the volume a lot, because you need to give your muscle a reason to grow — they need to feel “stimulated” into growing… so that’s why it’s important to workout more intesely if you want to grow. Upping sets/reps to 5×5 while decreasing the rest periods a bit on the DoubleYourGains’ 3-5 will do the trick.

Here’s the thing: most guys don’t have problems with working out intensely, they get excited and pumped up about going in the gym and lifting heavy stuff. So if you’re already working out intensely and still not gaining more muscle then pay attention to the next two tips…

2. Eat More. A LOT MORE.

For most skinny guys, this is the hardest part. Eating more. Maybe you don’t have a big appetite in the first place, or you just get full easily. It doesn’t matter because in order to gain more muscle you need to eat a LOT more than you do normally.

Lots of guys think “but I’m eating a ton already!” when they’re really not. Maybe you at a lot at your last meal, but chances are you didn’t eat much throughout the rest of the day. Start keeping a little food journal, where you write down everything you’re eating every day to keep track.

Or use an online tool like fitday.com to keep track of what you’re eating. Here’s the bottom line: you should see some fat gain or some muscle gain in the mirror if you’re REALLY eating more calories than you’re burning off… if you’re not seeing anything then you need to keep eating.

A good tip is to drink a lot of your calories, white magic baby!

3. Get More Rest.

This one is important too. When you start working out really intensely, it’s necessary to get the proper amount of rest.

Get good sleep, try not to stress out about everything, have some happy relationships, and you probably don’t need to even be in the gym more than 3x per week. Heck most guys probably don’t need to be in it more than 2x a week if they’re working out really hard.

Remember, you don’t grow muscle in the gym, you grow muscle outside of it when you’re resting. So there you go, follow those three tips and you’re sure to gain more muscle.
