If you’ve ever wondered how to gain 10 pounds of muscle… in the fastest time possible… then you’re going to want to read this article right now.
This is actually a very timely topic, because I’m in the process of doing this right now. I’ll share the steps I’m taking with you as I’m doing it.
Step 1: I’m Increasing The Resistance.
Every session I’m in the weight room, I’m finding a way to increase the total amount of weight I’m lifting. I haven’t hit a plateua yet on this program, so for now I’m just increasing weight in a linear fashion — adding 5lbs per workout per exercise.
Eventually I’ll hit the point where I can’t keep doing that much weight increasing in a linear fashion. When that happens I’ll take a break for a week. I won’t stop going to the gym, I’ll just cut my volume in half for about a week then I’ll continue to increase the poundage.
But instead of a totally linear progression I’ll go in a 3 steps forward, 2 steps back progression that will give my body time to adapt to the new stimulus and grow even stronger…
Step 2: I’m Increasing Volume.
I usuallly do something like 3 sets of 3 reps, with a couple of warm up sets with light weights. Why? Because my goals before were just to increase my strength levels and no put on much muscle mass.
Now, I’m increasing the volume to 3 sets of 5 reps… and when I can’t make anymore increases in weight, I’ll increase the sets as well on the exercises.
In order to build 10 pounds of muscle mass you need to have adequate volume in your training program. You don’t need to do 100’s of reps, but an increase in resistance as well as volume is necessary.
Step 3: I’m Focusing On Multi-Joint Exercises.
I’m all about efficiency — so no leg extensions and hamstring curls when below parallel squats and deadlifts are on the menu! I’m following a simple variation of the DoubleYourGains 3-5 Program I’ve written about before… and I’m simply increasing the resistance and volume as per steps one and two.
I’m also making sure to increase my calories during my 4-8hr feeding window, eating clean food and supplementing with my favorite supplements. One is a breakthrough creatine supplement I’ll tell you all about shortly — but so far it’s AMAZING!
That’s how I’m going to gain 10 pounds of muscle — what would you do?
