If you’re looking for exercises that burn fat, then you’re going to love this article. I’m going to give you a few of my best exercises for melting fat and losing weight.
First off, what makes for a good fat burning exercise? Well, ideally you want the exercise to work as many different muscle groups as possible… and in many different ways.
Which means you want some strength building and some endurance training — you want to stress your body from a couple different angles. You want exercises that are going to crank up your heart-rate, get you huffing and puffing, and get a good sweat going.
Best: Full Body Exercises.
If you have the option it’s best to do full body exercises like barbell squats and deadlifts for strength. Or Power Cleans or Kettlebell snatches for a full body workout.
Even better are when you combine a bunch of full body, compound exercises into what’s known as a “complex”. Here’s a sample barbell complex:
- Deadlift Barbell off floor, then…
- Hang Clean it to your shoulders, then…
- Front Squat it up and down, then…
- Push Press it overhead, then…
- Overhead Squat it, and then put the barbell down…
Try 5 sets of 5 with a decent size weight with that complex and you’ll soon discover what “full body workout” REALLY means!
Better: Leg Dominant Exercises.
Next in line, if you can’t do full body exercises, or you want a good “finisher” exercise to your full body workouts is to get some really good leg dominant exercises in your workout.
Why leg dominant? Because next to your back, your legs are one of your biggest muscle groups — so it gives you the most potential to burn fuel for fat (because you’re expending more energy to work the big muscle groups).
So you could do stuff like Jump Squats, Bodyweight Squats, One-legged Squats (pistols), and things like that to further increase the fat burning potential of your workout (maybe add these in as a finisher or make them the primary exercises if you’re traveling or can’t get to the gym for some reason).
Good: Upper Body Dominant Exercises.
Nothing beats some good ole fashioned pullups, dips and pushups… well except for the two options above of course. Either way, it’s good to pair these upper body exercises with the leg dominant exercises mentioned before… or you can bust out a quick set of these every hour on the hour to keep the ole metabolism revved up all day.
It’s up to you how to put it all together, but those are some of the the best exercises that burn fat.
