Ever wonder what the best exercises for muscle strength are? This article will give you a brief overview of the best exercises for strengthening the muscles of your body… and not just SOME muscles… ALL of them!
While every exercise will eventually strengthen the muscles worked — the goal is to find out which exercises make you stronger OVERALL throughout your whole body — so you see the most strength gains.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you probably have an idea of what I recommend, but let’s get straight to it:
The Deadlift
Many times in life you’ll have to bend down, pick something up and lift it off the floor. The deadlift is a similar movement.
The biggest benefit of the deadlift? It strengthens nearly every muscle in your entire body either as a primary mover, secondary mover or stabilizer. Cool huh?
Read my article on How to deadlift for more information on doing this great exercise.
The Squat
The squat is also a very functional movement for your every day life and athletic activities. You often have to squat down and stand up… bend your knees deep and stand up. Keeping strength and flexibility throughout this movement will be very important the older you get.
It also has the benefit of working nearly every muscle in your body. Read my article on how to squat to discover more on this “King of Exercises”.
The Overhead Press
If you can’t overhead press your own bodyweight for at least one rep, then I don’t want to hear you talking about strength! It’s as simple as that.
Most trainees focus on the bench press as the primary show of upper body strength these days… but there aren’t many situations in every day life or athletics when you’re lying supine on a bench and pressing something above your chest.
Pressing things overhead? It happens every day. Plus, you get a large majority of your body involved in the overhead press… the torso stabilizes… the glutes stabilize… it’s definitely not just an “arms” exercise. It works the whole body.
Read my article on how to overhead press for more information.
Putting it all together to build more strength.
What’s next? Read my article on strength training. Then take everything I’ve shown you and put it all together in the DoubleYourGains’ 3-5 Strength Training Program which… who would’ve thought? … contains the three best exercises for muscle strength
