I had to take 2 weeks off of the dead lift because it had slightly injured my lower back. During that time I basically did daily research on how to DL without frying my lower back. Today I went back to the DL using the tips from this guide, I feel NOTHING in my lower now after the work out. During the work out I still feel some lower back work being done but it fires up on the sides alot more through the hips and feels generally like healthy muscle work. I will say I feel it works my leggs ALOT more this way, which is fine by me. Thanks my routine is back on track because of this guide! ( injured lower back = no squats either, uhg)

Thank you for posting this.

I just started deadlifting. I was really worried that the soreness in my lower back was greater than that of my glutes and hamstring.

I can't believe it's that simple. Squeeze your ass cheeks and lift in a pelvic thrust motion(controlled motion of course).

Thanks again, you might have just prevented me from snapping my spin.

My question is, because now you're saying stop doing it from your lower back but from your legs. Doesn't the essence of this exercise change? Because I'm using the deadlift for my back.

I just tried this technique right now. My glutes and hamstrings contracted much more heavily and my posterior chain felt better activated. Great article! You really do know your stuff!
